International Women in Jazz welcomes jazz professionals, students, and enthusiasts to love and support jazz.
Youth in Action
A key component of IWJ is Youth in Action. We “discover” young female jazz musicians, encourage their participation, and present a platform of performance to the jazz community through IWJ auditions, activities, and events. An IWJ “sister” will serve as a mentor and follow their careers. We also encourage our youth to participate in our community activities and our First Monday’s monthly jam session and Open Mics.
Criteria for Youth in Action Member
Young woman up to age 17
an interest in pursuing a jazz education or performance career
an exemplary academic record
demonstrated leadership skills, community involvement or community service
demonstrated excellence on her instrument or vocally
Letter of recommendation from a music schoolteacher or music professional
Biography and photo
Demonstration and/or recording of their musical ability if accomplished
